Skyway Bicutan-Alabang at-grade section gets facelift

Skyway developer Citra Metro Manila Tollways Corporation (CMMTC) and Skyway operator Skyway O&M Corporation (SOMCO) will undertake a month-long rotomilling and asphalting overlay work on the at-grade section of the Skyway System from Bicutan to Alabang starting today, March 5. This is part of the Skyway Stage 1 "new look" program which aims to make the Stage 1's 13.5-km Magallanes-Alabang at-grade section and the 9.5-km Buendia-Bicutan elevated section feel and look new again to be at par with Stage 2's new 6.9-km Bicutan-Alabang elevated section.

The Skyway extension to Sucat opened to traffic in December last year; and its extension to Alabang will open in April this year.

This road improvement work will boost the level of comfort, safety and efficiency of travel on the Skyway System, especially the at-grade section between Magallanes and Alabang, which is the most heavily-traversed section of the Skyway System. Initially, rotomilling and patching will be done on the innermost southbound (SB) and northbound (NB) lanes, then on the center lanes and later, on the outermost lanes. When this is finished, asphalt overlay work will follow in the same sequence: inner lanes first, then center, and  afterward, outer lanes. Two travel lanes on both the SB and NB directions will be available to motorists at all times.

To ensure the safety of both the motorists and workers, and minimize the traffic inconvenience, CMMTC and SOMCO will work at night from 10 p.m. up to 5 a.m. the following day. All the necessary safety measures like warning lights and signages will be in place. Additional traffic personnel will also be deployed on the work areas. CMMTC and SOMCO will again appeal to the motorists for their understanding and cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience said road improvement work may cause.
