Skyway firm implements "Oplan Kaluluwa"
In observance of forthcoming All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, traffic volume at the Skyway System’s Magallanes-Alabang at-grade and Buendia-Bicutan elevated sections is expected rise as motorists trek to memorial parks and cemeteries south of Metro Manila and vice-versa.
To minimize travel inconvenience, Skyway O&M Corporation (SOMCO), the operator of the Skyway System, will implement Oplan Kaluluwa from October 30 to November 3, 2009. According to Eduardo Nepomuceno, head of SOMCO Special Operations and External Affairs, SOMCO will beef up its operations in coordination with the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Philipine Nationa Police-NCRPO, the local police stations within the vicinities of the Skyway System, the Emergency Medical Service of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Automobile Association of the Phils., and Lifeline Arrows.
SOMCO will deploy additional personnel, especially in pinpointed traffic choke points, and will station eight (8) tow vehicles in strategic sections of the expressways. BFP’s medical and emergency teams will be on stand-by at Susana Heights round-the-clock for the Oplan Kaluluwa to respond to any emergency. Lifeline Arrows will provide ambulance service.
Meanwhile, Skyway Stage 2 construction from Bicutan to Alabang will continue but Nepomuceno assured that all construction activities will be confined inside the work area and will not take up any space on the roadway. SOMCO will continue to provide motorist assistance and manage traffic which are part of its daily operations. It also advises motorists to call the Skyway System’s emergency hotline, 776-7777 to ask for assistance or report stalled vehicles or accident.
