Skyway operator ready for Holy Week traffic
The dash of people taking advantage of the long vacation during the Holy Week will inevitably congest traffic at the Skyway System, especially between Bicutan and Alabang at-grade section where the construction of Skyway Stage 2 is in progress. Motorists either go home to their provinces or vacation stops south of Metro Manila starting Holy Wednesday, March 31; and return to Manila on Saturday or Sunday (April 3 or 4).
As in the past couple of years, the Skyway System operator, Skyway O&M Corp. (SOMCO) in partnership with Petron Corp., will implement "Lakbay Alalay 2010" to address the increased demand of vehicular traffic at the Skyway System's at-grade section from Magallanes to Alabang and provide assistance to distressed motorists. "Lakbay Alalay" stations in Nichols, C5 and Sucat will operate from 12 noon to 11 p.m. on March 31; from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 1; from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on April 3 and 4; and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on April 5, Monday.
To minimize travel inconvenience, Eduardo Nepomuceno, head of SOMCO special operations and external affairs, assures motorists that SOMCO will beef up its operations also in coordination with the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Philippine National Police-NCRPO, the local police stations within the vicinities of the Skyway System, Lifeline Arrows and MMDA, the Automobile Association of the Phils. (AAP) and radio communications groups.
SOMCO will deploy additional personnel, especially in pinpointed traffic choke points, and will station AAP tow trucks in strategic sections of the tollway. Lifeline Arrows medical and emergency teams will be on standby for any emergency. Motorists are advised to call the Skyway System's emergency hotline, 7767777 , to ask for assistance or report stalled vehicles or accident. (The Philippine Star)
