Back To 3 Lanes At Skyway's Bicutan-Alabang At-Grade Section By Jan 2010

RELIEF IN SIGHT Now that the columns at the main alignment of the Skyway Stage 2 Project are completed, the travel lanes between Bicutan and Alabang, which were narrowed during the construction of the columns, have been restored to three standard lanes early in January. South Metro Manila Skyway Project developer Citra Metro Manila Tollways Corporation and its main contractor, D.M. Consunji, Inc., worked at breakneck pace to finish the columns ahead of target schedule of May 2010 to ease traffic in the area and offer relief to motorists. Skyway Stage 2 is the 6.88-kilometer elevated tollway from Bicutan to Alabang that will extend the existing 9.5-kilometer Buendia-Bicutan Skyway elevated section by May 2011. Skyway developer, Citra Metro Manila Tollways Corporation (CMMTC), announced that the Skyway System's at-grade Sucat-Alabang stretch will be restored to three (3) lanes when its main contractor for South Metro Manila Skyway Stage 2 Project resumes full-blast construction work come January 2, 2010.

The 3 lanes, demarcated by yellow road lane marking from Alabang to Sucat, is a result of the near completion of the column works from Bicutan to Alabang with only 3 columns to be concreted, thereby adjusting the concrete barriers along the Skyway Stage 2 work site inward to free up space for the motorists' use. The restoration of the three-lane configuration is also expected to ease the traffic situation along the tollway.

This development is a result of the efforts of CMMTC and its main contractor  at accelerating the construction pace of Skyway Stage 2 project even as they continue to face challenges in managing traffic and working on a very limited space.  It will also mark the first milestone of the Skyway Stage 2 Project, four months ahead of the target schedule on May 2010.  CMMTC earlier committed to erect all the columns and restore the tollroad to 3 lanes by May 2010.

CMMTC expressed optimism that the project will stay ahead of its target schedule even as all construction work on the project temporarily halts on December 24, 25, 30, and 31, 2009 and on January 1, 2010 to give way to the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.  To-date, construction is 3% ahead of schedule.
