Skyway: Safe for the Public

Safety first.

This is the single most important rule that is adhered to in undertaking the Skyway project. CMMTC and its partners, such as main contractor D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI); independent consultant Pertconsult International;  project manager Consortium of Renardet S.A.; traffic and safety manager Skyway O&M Corporation, religiously maintain and supervise this standard.

Safety is observed during the construction process, with daily inspection of the work site to prevent accidents from occurring and ensure that motorists and workers are kept safe even as construction activities proceed at breakneck speed.

Skyway Stage 2 adheres to various national and international safety standards to make sure that the Skyway itself is safe for the public’s use once it is completed. It is being built according to international standards of safety to ensure that they are strong, stable, and earthquake-resistant.

The various engineering standards being followed in making the Skyway System are the following:

  1. Department Order No. 75, Series of 1992, Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) Advisory for Seismic Design of Highway Bridges,

  2. American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges, latest edition,

  3. AASHTO Guide Specifications for Seismic Design of Bridges, latest edition,

  4. National Structural Code of the Philippines, latest edition, for the design of buildings,

  5. DPWH Drainage Design Guidelines, Criteria and Standards supplemented by the AASHTO Higway Drainage Design Guidelines,

  6. Philippine Electrical Code published by the Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines and relevant reference codes contained therein, and

  7. Philippine Road Signs Manual, revised edition, augmented by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices published by the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Highways Administration in 1988.
